Installation of modular buildings and associated groundworks
Princess Royal University Hospital, Orpington
Initial Systems was approached regarding the urgent requirement for the installation of an ambulant waiting area and mental health unit modular buildings in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Due to the critical importance for the buildings, the project was a fast-track scheme that had to be delivered within an incredibly short timeframe.
Initial Systems carried out trail holes on site to determine the existing ground conditions, and employed a structural engineer to design the building foundations and associated works.
The proposed areas were cleared, with existing structures demolished, and the overall site reduced in levels to accommodate the varying door thresholds across the two sites.
Extensive excavations were undertaken to accommodate the large pad foundation designs, with temporary earthwork support systems installed to safeguard our operatives, members of the public and the site due to the considerable depths of the excavations.
Initial Systems installed new concrete foundations with structural steel beams spanning across existing below ground services and drainage infrastructure.
New surface water and foul water drainage infrastructure was installed, and upon completion all external areas were reinstated to match existing.
